About ChurchesAtlas

ChurchesAtlas is a guide to the great churches of North America and Europe. We go to each church in person, photograph it, and write down what a visitor needs: when it's open, when Mass is, what to look for and why it matters.

New York comes first, and it's the model for every city that follows.

Who takes the photographs

The photographs are by Erdo, unless a caption credits another photographer. Readers and contributing photographers can suggest a church or send their photos; nothing they send is published without review.

Who it's for

Pilgrims, parishioners, architecture lovers and anyone with an hour to spare in a new city. You don't need to share the faith to love these buildings, but they are working churches, and we write about them that way.
